Men de ödesdigra följderna av svåra skallskador som uppstått i strid eller genom olyckor måste redan i förhistorisk tid ha lett till en allmän medvetenhet om betydelsen av att skydda huvudet. Descartes’ brand of dualism may be hard to swallow, but the parallelist’s purported solution is even harder to swallow. However, there is another, much more promising way to address the problem—one that the princess was attracted to and which the majority of present-day philosophers are inclined to accept. These interpretative problems clearly also hold for what Descartes was and is now taken to have meant. See, Wilson, Margaret Dauler , Descartes (London, 1978), 177 – 220. For an account of the ‘official doctrine’, i.e., dualism as commonly understood, see Ryle's, Gilbert The concept of mind (London, 1949), 11 – 24.

I've recently become interested in the philosophy of the mind, specifically the interaction between the mind and the body. Is Descartes' mind-body dualism also an intension-extension distinction?

As the conceivable argument needs the essence of the mind and body to show that they we can conceive of them distinctly, if Descartes has got the essences wrong then he cant conceive of himself disembodied. 2020-10-17 According to Descartes, dualism is a domain where the mind and body are considered to be two discrete entities and therefore, the classifications that emerge from them are fundamentally dissimilar. This being said, while these sub-groups are radical units on their own, on the other hand they are also sub-components of a single bigger entity; that of entity of causal power. Descartes argues within substance dualism that the mind and brain closely interact with each other, though they are different substances with differing properties. This is considered to be Descartes’ main point in the interactive substance dualism theory and this premise will be considered true. 2021-04-13 Descartes was born in 1596, in France. Descartes was, of course, a philosopher; but, in addition, he was a scientist and one of the most important mathematicians of his time.

I'm currently writing a paper for a class contrasting Spinoza's monism and Descartes' Dualism. I have plenty of online resources through my university's online library and a hard text for Descartes, but I cant seem to figure out which book Spinoza advocates for Monism in. I actually think Descartes' dualism was probably motivated for reasons that reddit users would probably sympathize with. Descartes wanted to eject lots of qualitative terms (hot, cold, wet, heavy, etc.) from physics and make it based primarily on mathematics and geometry.
